Experiments and Observations on Electricity (1751)

You put the key on the kite and fly it all around...

Whether or not Benjamin Franklin ever performed his famous kite experiment (and there is a good chance he did...but historians being historians must question everything), his treatise on electricity is a rock solid resource that puts America's most famous (or infamous, depending on which side of the Revolution you came down on) and has stood the test of time.  Like his Almanac, which was successful for 34 years, Experiments and Observations on Electricity was published well into the 20th century...a run of over 200 years....

Consisting mainly of correspondence between himself and Peter Collinson, Franklin continued to update and expand the book throughout successive printings.  This work is the only scientific book Franklin ever had printed...perhaps that is why we associate him so closely with this natural phenomena.
