It’s a Nobel Prize winning story…It’s been read by countless High School English students…it’s almost an institution unto itself and usually comes up when the discussion turns to primal tribalism…
The Lord of the Flies was
written by William Golding and made its debut in 1954, becoming a best-seller,
despite its initial unpopularity. There
are some previous novels from the 19th century that bear some
resemblance or figure into Golding’s book as a counter-pose, the most prominent
being The Coral Island by Robert
Michael Ballantyne, the other, Two Years’ Vacation by Jules Verne.
