The Bay Psalm Book (1640)

The Whole Booke of Psalmes Faithfully Translated into English Metre: Whereunto is Prefixed a Discourse Declaring not Only the Lawfullness, but Also the Necessity of the Heavenly Ordinance of Singing Scripture Psalmes in the Churches of God...

Perhaps its importance resides in that it's the first book printed in North America.  Three decades before the first successful English colony planted itself in Virginia, and only 20 years had past since Plimoth took root in Massachusetts Bay.  Given the religious motives surrounding this northern colony of Englishmen, it's not surprising the fist publication printed would be of like kind.
