Tales of the South Pacific (1947)

Michener’s first…

I have a soft spot for this man’s writing.  His tales are sweeping and grandiose, taking on centuries of time and weaving a tale that brings the location and the past associated with it into life.  Centennial, Hawaii, Texas, Poland, Alaska…all these places…and more, have felt the pen of Michener’s tale…

Tales of the South Pacific was his first.  Being a Naval officer stationed in the Pacific during the Second World War probably made it a “authoritative” write…but it is far from your average tale.  Exotic locations, exotic individuals, love, hate and WWII…no wonder it scored Michener the Pulitzer…not to mention the theatrical musical and the movie.

So…with some of the works I present here, a first edition is not available.  Either it is too expensive, or you must scour eBay or Amazon, Abe books or Alibris and try and track one down…or get a later printing that’s still in the sphere of the book’s first edition issue.  You’re welcome to do just that…I do…but sometimes I just want to read the story, and a later edition, digitized copy is just fine for that…

It’s from 1950…not a 1947 first edition copy…but very readable.
