There are no little green men from Mars or magically
advances machines in this story…but there are lots of spikey helmeted Huns…and
that’s just as bad. This story is one of
the first what if’s…what if the British Isles suffered a German invasion in
grand Victorian style…lancers and all…
Published originally in Blackwood’s Magazine, it was later
issued as a small booklet…which is probably where H.G. Wells read and absorbed
this tale…a partial influence for The War of the
Worlds…
