Arguably, The Raven is Poe’s most famous literary work. The lines of this poem is what you think of when the
conversation turns to the literature of horror, and “Nevermore” has become a colloquialism
in the English language. Surprisingly,
many have not read the poem. The Raven made Edgar Allan Poe a famous author in his own time, and although the works
have faded somewhat, his name and reputation have not. He is still the ‘King” of 19th century horror…
This poem was first published in The American Review for
February, 1845. They paid Poe $9.00 for
the piece, not a bad sum in those days…
