Reading all of the works by an author who called my state of California home, and discovering perhaps the best American author of the 20th-century. This is a list of his books should you wish to walk the path in its entirety. Be forewarned, his works in their first edition/first printing state are extremely expensive. Just the dust jacket/cover for his first book, Cup of Gold, sold in the neighborhood of around $20,000. A first edition of Cup of Gold can be had for a few hundred dollars (minus the original dust jacket of course) and later printings of his works within the first publication year can be bought for five or ten dollars. Unless you want the choicest most desirable volumes, you can reasonably acquire a decent collection of Steinbeck's books from the era. If you just want to read the books, and don't have my fascination of reading the first edition of every story, you have options on the Web, and can find the books freely available if you browse around a bit.

Here's the canon of John Steinbeck's books, from beginning to end...
