Atlantis: The Antediluvian World (1882)

In the 1960's, there was a book that took the World by storm...

Chariots of the Gods? written by Erich von Däniken was an absolute sensation. The book put forward a lot of speculation, asserting that ancient man and the dawn of religion centered around alien beings coming to Earth and being perceived as Gods. It's a very interesting concept and assertation, creative and imaginative. Everyone was talking about it...

This is not the first time such an imaginative, speculative book has created so much controversy, and so much wealth for an author. In 1882 Ignatius Donnelly, a congressman from Minnesota, published a book on the mythical island city of Atlantis. Using virtually no scientific evidence, he crafted a story that informed the public about a legend that was not widely known and put the concept of Atlantis into the mainstream, very much like Chariots of the Gods? Atlantis: The Antediluvian World stands as one of the most lucrative books of speculative exploration, and hold its place as one of the first mainstream tomes within this genre...

Donnelly became World famous, wealthy and sought out as an "expert" on the subject...much like Von Däniken almost a century later.
