If you want more of the Swiss family who built a treehouse on a deserted island...look no further. Jules Verne was a literary showman. He was very fond of taking a well known story and crafting a sequel, most likely to profit off a previous existing, guaranteed success. Not that he was unsuccessful with his own ideas...he simply created a follow-up, and frankly, these "Vernian" sequels are fun and very creative.
Second Fatherland is Verne's interpretation of what follows after Wyss' book The Swiss Family Robinson ends. It was published as two volumes in France in 1900 as part of Verne's Le Voyages Extraordinaires series (in French of course). It made its way to the first English edition printed in London in 1923 as two books, Their Island Home and The Castaways of the Flag. An American edition followed in 1924.
